For Electric Glass-Top Stoves

SmartRange

SmartRange is the ideal cooking fire protection for glass top electric ranges. It will detect the potential of a cooking fire starting and a pre-alarm will alert occupants of the issue. If the alarm is left unattended, the range will automatically shut off. SmartRange uses an intelligent heat sensor installed above the range and a control unit that cuts off the range’s power supply when a cooking fire risk is detected.

CARE & MAINTENANCE

Before You cook with SmartRange
SmartRange monitors changes in the range’s cooking temperature and if it detects a cooking fire risk it will signal a pre-alarm. If the user does not press the Heat Sensor cover during the pre-alarm, the range will automatically shut off. SmartRange does not protect against all possible hazards, but it does significantly improve cooking safety and delivers a significant return on investment through insurance savings, elimination of restoration and lost rent costs associated with cooking fires. SmartRange uses an intelligent heat sensor that is attached above the range and a separate unit that controls the range’s power supply. SmartRange reacts to cooking fire risk indicators earlier than other monitoring-style cooking safety products and helps to dramatically reduce the risk of cooking fires on glass top electric ranges.

Cleaning your SmartRange
With a slightly damp cloth, periodically wipe the heat sensor to keep it free from excessive grease or dirt.

FAQS

How do I replace the heat sensor batteries?

The average working life of the Heat Sensor is 10 years, based on the number of alarm activations. The batteries are fixed and cannot be changed. A new Heat Sensor should be purchased and paired to the existing Control Unit.

SmartRange has shut off my range. Is that normal?

If SmartRange has shut-off the Range and the cooking activity was normal, follow these simple steps to restore cooking functions:

Turn all the knobs or dials on the range to the “off” position.
Press the Heat Sensor cover once. (The Control Unit – which the range is plugged into – will make a clicking sound.)
SmartRange has been reset and the range will again function normally.

What if SmartRange shut off the range because of an unusual or dangerous cooking event?

If cooking activity has been unusual, SmartRange may activate a “lockdown” mode that prevents immediate restoration of cooking functions. For example, if all stove top burners have been turned to high heat and no pots or pans are in use, SmartRange will detect an unusually high heat pattern and potential fire risk and shut down the stove. Similarly, if there have been multiple pre-alarm activations in a short period of time, SmartRange will disable the range. In this circumstance, follow these steps:

Turn all the knobs or dials on the range to the “off” position.
Allow the range to cool down for at least 30 minutes.
Reset the range/Control Unit by resetting the range’s breaker switch at the electrical panel.
