How Safe T Element® Works

Safe T Element® shuts off your stove when elements reach 350ºC/662ºF. When they cool below this level, your stove will turn back on.

The Safe T Element® cooking system is an
ETL/Intertek approved component engineered to prevent stove top cooking fires before they start. Unlike other technologies that alert residents that there is already a fire or suppress an existing fire, the Safe T Element® actually helps prevent the fire from occurring in the first place.

Each Safe T Element® is an electronically controlled solid cover plate that is installed on top of existing stovetop burners. A patented control unit installed inside the stove controls the temperature of the plate limiting the high-end temperature to 350ºC/662ºF. Ignition temperature for oil and most common fibers starts at 387ºC/728ºF while electric stoves on high go well above 700ºC/1292ºF.

When the plate reaches just over 350ºC/662ºF the stove automatically shuts off and then as the plate cools to just below 350ºC/662ºF the stovetop is turned on again. In this way the burner plate caps the high-end temperature at 350ºC/662ºF below the ignition level of oil and most common household materials. Considering that water boils at 100ºC/212ºF, this temperature is more than enough for efficient and effective cooking.

Energy Savings

In addition to helping prevent fires, the Safe T Element® is an investment that also pays for itself through energy savings (verified at 200 kWh per year $30/stove on electrical bills).

Because the stovetop cycles on and off during the cooking process there is an added benefit of electricity savings. The kitchen stovetop is one of the only major household appliances that has not increased in energy efficiency over the past 15 years. And given that the stovetop is used during peak usage times (dinner/breakfast), demand is high and so too are the related utility costs, meaning that the Safe T Element® cooking system will pay for itself over time.

Safe T Element® is currently utilized as an energy efficient solution for Energy Service Companies (ESCO’s) on multi-residential energy projects. The Safe T Element® is also eligible for Government energy rebates in some jurisdictions.

Business Benefits

The return on investment is significant and includes a savings in energy use, reduction in cooking fire damage and sprinkler damage, a drop in insurance claims, and fewer false alarms. Calculate your potential savings using our simple Cost Savings Calculator.

Cooking with Safe T Element®

Your safety and the safety of others is very important to us. Safe T Element® has been installed throughout many applications to not only help prevent cooking fires but to provide greater control over the element’s temperature for improved cooking results; ease in keeping the stove-top and drip pans clean; and in reducing energy consumption.

For optimum cooking results, we suggest the following:

  • Match large pots with large burners, small pots with small burners.
  • The flatness of the cooking utensil will improve conduction of heat.
  • Keep lids on pans/pots to prevent heat from escaping.
